Making farm pond without using plastic lining

Making farm pond without using plastic lining
Manure pit :
Point Manuring fields make fields potent and fertile just as cow milk, ghee which make men potent and vital. Every farmer needs to dig a large pit and pour all weeds, vegetable wastes, ash, peels, dry matter, animal dungs etc...over a period of time...it will become manure to use on the field. A pit should be dug at the low land where rain water collects.

The manure pit should be dug on high land and out of the path of water to prevent leaching of valuable nutrients. It should be protected from rain and the sun by an overhead canopy. The pit needs to be lined with vegetative matter like leaves/ straw/ coir to help absorb excess moisture. The pit should have provision for good aeration so that composting proceeds uninterrupted.

The farm pond needs to be made by digging a large pit at the lowest point in the field where all seepage water flows. The sides and bottom of this pit need to be made impervious to water seepage by application of a clay slurry mixed with vegetative matter. The sides should also be stabilised by planting Khus grass.

Point After 3cycles of dumping/taking compost from the pit...pit will attain a saturation point to hold water...then pit become farm pond. Without using black plastic sheet..we can follow this method.

If you use the same pit for both preparation of farm yard manure in the beginning without lining the pit either with plastic or with a clay hay mixture you stand a chance of losing the leachate due to seepage. However, this pit could be used for storage of run off water later and a new pit has to be made for preparation of farm yard manure.

The above can be addressed as below dig pit...start keeping waste in the month of October (winter) take manure before June(monsoon). Check if the pit is holding rain water or not in rainy season. If not dump again.

If your soil does not have sufficient clay, you can import heavy clay from another place
1.Normally, most of the villages will have pilgrimage centres and along with them, they will have ponds, tanks etc which stores water and which is used for the temple as well as for the common use.
Regardless of the possibility that there are no pilgrimage centres around, certainly there will be lakes, tanks or other sources of water storage.  This is a fantastic source of nutrient rich soil as most of the water that arrives in this place carry with them the top soil from many places and deposit them here.
2. With the permission from the governing bodies, collected not more than 15-30 cms of top soil from the pond, tank etc.  By doing this, you will allow the water storage structure to retain more water.
3.Spread the top soil collected from the ponds, tanks etc on your place to improve your soil.
4. The top soil needs to be taken out only after sufficient amount of top soil has been collected in the ponds, tanks etc.

Recycling Waste/ polluted water
There is a popular culture called duck weed culture.Waste water recycles using plants...Spirodella, wulphia, lemna are the plants that can clean waste water...This water can be used for farming...
Waste water was filled in a pond. Then these floating plants are released in that pond...with in no time these plants spread around the pond...With 2-7 days water will be cleaned by these plants...These plants will give more oxygen to that water by removing harmful heavy metals...Grass carp & herbivorous fishes will survive in these waste waters by eating those plants...
Orissa govt is the 1st govt in India to implement duck weed culture in Bhubaneswar city.
